I have been busy lately with a new little one that I am babysitting, so not too much crafting going on. Here are just a few things that have happened in the last little bit...

Just a few visiting teaching valentine's gifts.

A necklace to go with the skirt I made for Hali.

Circle skirt that I found here. I am eventually going to make one for me. :)

I can't remember where I saw the tutorial on this, but I show you how I did it. Pretty simple. I love hot glue and broken necklaces!

Here is just a little birthday card for my mom. The blue flower is Matboard from Heartstring Designs

And this I made for a friend that is also Milaya's piano teacher. I got this idea from Miss Mustard Seed. She has done so many things with sheet music that are so cute. I might have to do some more. My project turned out bigger than I expected, but fits nicely on her wall. Just don't ask her husbands opinion on it.

I also found this bench/foot stool for $5.98 at a thrift store. It is currently in the process of being re-done. I have never reupholstered anything before, so this is a good(small) project to start with I think. I have taken the top off and have new foam that I got for 40% off at Jo-Ann's. I am just trying to decide if I want the base black with zebra print on top(which I already have the stuff for), or brown with different brown material on top. Thoughts? Anyone? ;) Decisions, decisions.

Mirror

I just realized that I haven't posted pics of the mirror I finished!!! My brain doesn't work properly ~~most of the time~~ sometimes!

So....here we go!

I don't think that I needed the primer on it. I think it was a wasted step...lesson learned.

I painted it a turquoise blue, then dry brushed some creamy tan oops paint that I got again for really cheap. Then I sanded it down on the edges to reveal some of the wood. (this is why the primer was a wasted step)

The pic below is where I have it now. I am eventually going to re-do the dresser and the jewelry box on the right. In all of the spare time that I have! The dresser we got for free from our landlord after we got married. It is falling apart, but it was free and still works. I would eventually like to get this one from IKEA. I just have to talk Mr. Moneybags into getting it, since he doesn't think the old one is worth a re-do. I couldn't get a "good" picture of it to make it look "pretty", oh well. I will blame it on my not so fancy camera ;)

NEW YEAR, NEW PROJECTS!

So, I have a few things up my sleeves right now. I have really gotten a bug to refinish stuff. Every time I come home from the thrift store my husband ~~adores me~~ rolls his eyes and asks if he needs to take away my debit card. During Christmas break, we went to a thrift store in our area and I found this

For $9.98! This thing is heavy, solid wood. And it is about as tall as I am. (I know, it isn't saying much, but for a mirror it is!) I saw a mirror over at Miss Mustard Seed and fell in love with it. I don't remember if I saw it before or after I found this mirror. Anyway, she did a great job with hers of course - so I thought that I would give it a go.
I didn't like the design that had been routed out, so I filled it in with wood putty, and sanded, and filled in, and sanded. I did that about 4-5 times until I looked like it didn't exist.

Then I primed it. Thinking back, I probably didn't have to do that if I wanted it to look like hers...doh. Then I painted it my favorite turqoise color.

It isn't finished yet, so you will have to come back and see the final product. I am waiting for the weather to get warm and dry enough to finish it! It is going to go on top of our dresser in our bedroom where I have my other pieces that I have redone! My next post is going to be all over the place, but so much fun stuff has been going on!

Finished projects

Ok, so here is the finished project I was promising. And another. I didn't know how I would like this paint color, but I thought that it turned out really well with the glaze. I did have some "help" from the kids on this one.


Here is the finished product. It is in my bedroom.


You can see more of the detail than before. Before it was just a pewter color and wasn't painted at all.

Here is another project that I got for FREE!!! My neighbors were moving so I thought that I would go see what she had. She said if you want it take it. It is going into the dump or donated anyway. So I was REALLY excited to get this next piece. I grew up with these in my house and have been wanting to get one to redo. And what is better than finding one...finding one for free!

Before, not the prettiest piece in the world. Lots of cobwebs on it.


The inside has a hole in the back. My plan is to put fabric on the bottom to cover the hole and to make it look cute! Think it will work?

It took me just one day to get this done. It was sitting there for a few weeks, but once I had a chance to do it it went pretty fast. I primed it with Krylon white primer.

Then I painted it Blue Ocean Breeze. I saw some way cute stuff on All Things Thrifty and it was SO cute! So I had to get some and try it. It is the same color I used on the project above.

I took the hardware off and spray painted it oil rubbed bronze. It has a little bit of a sparkle to it.

And then added glaze (which I got for 25 cents at a yard sale!) that I tinted black(the paint was also an oops paint I got at walmart). I love it!

And voila! It's done! I want to do another project so bad. I am trying to find a sitting chair that I can redo and put next to it in my bedroom for a reading nook. Here's hoping!

MIA

Yes, I have been MIA for a while now. I have been taking pictures and doing "stuff". I just haven't had time to re-size everything and post! But there will a come a day...PLEASE let there come a day, when I can get that done. So, be patient, I have 4 little ~~rugrats~~ beautiful children running around that won't let me get on the computer without the "MOMMY, MOMMY, MOMMY I need your full attention right now or else I am going to die" thing.

Just to start with...here are a couple of things that I have done so far.

Not the finished product...that will come later. I forgot to take a before pic. It was just plain white.

Just one of the pillows I have done. More to come (hopefully soon!)

Christmas Gifts

These are just a few of the gifts that we did for the girls' teachers for Christmas. I loved how easy it was. A simple brown paper bag with handles. All a little unique in their own way. I loved the vintage look of the papers in this collection. They are from Graphic 45 Christmas Past Collection. I used Letters To Santa, and Deck the Halls papers for the bags. I also used some cardstock punchouts from Creative Imaginations the Samantha Walker collection. And then of course I had to use some mat-board from Heartstring Designs (which by the way is where all of this came from in the Greetings By Design kits ) (here is February's kit)

(I added the gromets here)

I also added the tag. I distressed the edges and embossed gold stars on the front using my Versamark watermark ink pad. I added Stickles to the baby Jesus' manger. I just tore some cardstock and freehanded love and attached it to the front of the tag. Added a gromet with my crop-a-dile ( LOVE IT!) and added twine to attach it to the bag. I made this to be an ornament that they can stick on their Christmas tree every year.

Sorry for the HUGE post, but I haven't updated in a while. Here are just a ton of cards and things that I have made since January. I figured I would post them now before I have the baby!

H's birthday card. It even has dark hair like hers. The little girl and her clothes are stickers. SO CUTE! You could pick the dress that she wanted to wear. It was like a little sticker dress up doll.

Wedding card

These were Mother's Day cards for my Mom and B's Mom

I made the tags into magnets so they could go on the fridge and see my cute kids all of the time!

Birthday card for one of M's little friends, she helped "design" it. She chose the paper and colors.

Baby card for a friend. The pocket is actual denim material and then I drew the stitching on with a white pen. And the "it's a boy" is stamped on in Craft White from Stampin' Up.

M's Lunch Pail Kit from Heartstring Designs. Turned out cute. I love the Crop-a-dile! It went right through the tin so easy!

Halloween Favors

These are some Halloween treats that I made for the girls classes. I put M&M's in them. I just used cardstock cut to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2. And then made them into a tube. Then you squeeze the ends the opposite way. Really easy. I stamped on them before folding them using clear stamps. Love those! The spider and web was my favorite!

Birthday Invites & Gift

These are birthday party invites for Milaya's party. They are little purses that open up with the info inside.

I made these cupcakes for her class at school. I have been seeing tons of these "cupcake creations" where you make a design with them and frost it all together. This one was hard to frost together so I had to do some by themselves and then put them in the shape. There was pink for the girls and plenty of green for the boys in her class. They thought it was cool. Am I the coolest Mom or what!?

I decided that while I had the portable canner from church I would put Milaya's gift in this can and seal it. That way there was NO peeking! I just added some paper and embellishments to it. I thought it turned out cute. Too bad the can-opener was being uncooperative and we had to throw it away. I was going to let her use it to store stuff in. Oh well. Maybe next time. I did save the paper and stuff on it to do a layout later.

Towel Bags

I know I haven't updated in a while, so there will be a few new posts on here. Hopefully I can get them all done!

These are just some bags that I made with the youth at my church. I just found these towels for $1 at Wal-Mart. Got some ribbon for the handles, and I had some old buttons that we put on them. I used cross stitch thread to whipstitch the sides closed and then hot glued the handles on it. We wanted to make it simple and quick for the girls to do. The first on I made. Milaya's is the brown one, she designed her buttons. And Hali's is the light blue one. She also "designed" her button flower.

The front of mine. I sewed a button on the front(in the middle) and put a thin piece of ribbon to loop over the button to keep it closed at the top. You just can't see that in the picture, sorry.

This is a picture that I have had since I got married. I have always loved it. So I thought that I would frame it for my parents and send it to them. But silly me sent it before the storm. Now it is lost in the mail somewhere and they can't get it yet. I was going to make it a surprise for them, but they might see it on here. So, Mom and Dad if you are reading this I love you very much and I am very glad that you are my parents. This wasn't supposed to be for an anniversary or anything like that. It was a "just because" thing. I hope that you like it.

Make & Take

This is my make & take that we did for Amanda's party last night. I forgot to get pictures of the ones that they made, but here is what they based it on. I am starting to like the color orange. I know I am from Orange, but it wasn't my best color. Anyhoo, I can scrapbook with it and don't have to wear it right!?

Supplies:
I used a large mat board tag
vellum flowers that I punched out(blue & orange)
felt flowers from American Craft
bronze colored eyelet
paper that was left over from a previous kit
twine
distress ink in vintage photo

I wanted them to play with different textures on one item to see how they can work together. I also wanted them to be able to use the Crop-a-dile. Love that thing! It is quiet and so easy to use. They loved it and were amazed at how easy it was.

Halloween

OK, so I am just getting to do my halloween pictures from last year. Just in time to take more! This is from the October kit that is coming out in a few weeks! I already have a page done! Whoo hooo! I plan on doing more so I might add it to this one later. The kit came with a stencil sheet that was too cute. That is what all of the swirls and the circle in the middle came from. I used the white pen from Inkssentials. WAY CUTE! I love it!

The kids weren't anything scary for halloween so I didn't want the page to be scary. Maybe I will add a few pumpkins to it or something.

Hurricane Ike

Hey y'all-I don't have any pics of my family's houses, but we have had word that they are ok. We also have had word that there has been no water damage to our homes, just maybe some cosmetic stuff to fix. My family is still out of town and don't know when the power will be back on or when they will be let in. Some other places in Orange are really bad. Bridge City is pretty bad too. I am putting in some links to KOGT.com and the Orange Police Dept.. They have pics of some of the damage. This is a tv station that has been streaming online. KFDM Check them out if you want to see. This is a purse card that I added a magnet to the back of the flower and to the card to make it stay closed and to help it stand up. I think it turned out really cute.

Hurricane Gustav

This is the same post I made on my other website, so if you have read it once, don't feel obligated to read it again.

As you probably know, Hurricane Gustav is hitting the Gulf right about now. My parents and most of my family are on the Gulf Coast(Orange, TX to be exact). Luckily everyone has made plans to be somewhere else when it hits. I would just like to say to all of the readers or anyone who happens to come across my blog to keep them and their homes in your prayers and thoughts. I know homes and the things in them are just "things". But they are my family's. It would be devastating for them to try and start over. My parents have been in the same house for over 30 yrs. I grew up in that house. I love my home. I love my family. I also have friends that are in Texas and more family/friends in Louisiana. I just hope and pray that everything will be ok for them when they return. It also bugs me that the weather channel is so worried about New Orleans, that is all fine and dandy, but what about the other people down there. They haven't said anything about the Texas coast or even closer to the border. I actually heard a weatherman say that "he HOPES it moves west so it doesn't hit New Orleans". I DON'T! (I wouldn't wish it on anyone.) I can understand how devastating it will be for New Orleans, but once again no one remembers anything about Hurricane Rita that hit my parents/family either. It is all about Katrina. Again, I understand it wasn't AS bad as Katrina, but there were still families left without homes, etc. And now here it goes again. So anyway, that is just my little vent session. To all of those in South East Texas I am thinking of you and praying for you! God bless Texas.

Eatin Ice Cream on the Shore

Here is Hali's beach layout that I finally got done. She looked so cute eating her ice cream, and of course she got it all over her face. I thought that the key chain card that I got was so cute I had to take a picture of it and put it on the layout. Ben & Jerry's is very popular out here. (I personally like Baskin Robbins better, but it still isn't as good as my BLUE BELL!!!)

This is a card I made for our Young Women's Presidents daughter. She got married a few weeks a go in UT.

This is a Book of Mormon that I made for my YW for a lesson. I used my alphabet stamps from Stampin Up and a versamark ink pad, and then used gold embossing powder. I used two small scraps of denim mat board for the covers of the book. Made eyelets and tied them together with twine.

This is an anniversary card for my in-laws. The card is glittery and of course more mat board! Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad B! We love you.

This card was designed by Milaya. She told me what paper and stuff she wanted on it and I finished it for her. So happy birthday Aunt Karin! Hope you got it and liked it! We love you too.

Birdies

Aren't the birds so cute! This is a baby card made with the mat board shapes that we turned into birds. You could stamp a paisley pattern on them also if you wanted. The possibilities are endless! The bird patterned paper is glittery too and adds a little bit more texture to the card.

I love the "thickers". They are raised stickers that are smooth and puffy. The letter sticker is a brown glitter sticker. Love those too!

Hali's surgery

For all of those who are wondering. Hali's surgery went well. She came home at around noon yesterday. She was eating and playing around and not wanting to wear the sling that we have her in. But all went well, we are trying to catch up on sleep and readjust. Hali gets frustrated because she can't use her right hand and she is right handed. We take her back to the doctor on the 1st of August to take the dressing off and make sure it is healing properly. Thank you to all of those who were saying prayers and well wishes. I will post pictures later of before and after. I got some shots of her playing with some toys at the hospital while we waited on the doctor to get there. So stay tuned!

It's a Party

These are the invitations that I made for a Heartstrings party that I did. I made the flip flops out of mat board (of course) and punched holes for the ribbon. Instead of turning them into a paper clip or just leaving them like that I turned them into magnets. That way people can see them and see how cute they are!

OK, so this picture is a little old. It is of Milaya at 8 months old. I just had to use my July kit for this one, and I finally found this picture again.

The USA is stamped with stamps that came in the kit. The red and blue paint came with it also. I used the craft white stamp pad from Stampin Up for the s. I love the red, white, and blue kits. I thought that I would just go simple on this one.

I took Hali to the doctor today because she said that her throat hurt. Today is the second day she has complained about it. I looked at it this morning and it was so swollen that her left side of her tonsils were almost touching her uvula(hangy ball thingy as the kids call it). I took her because she is supposed to be having surgery on a ganglion cyst that she has on her right wrist. We are going to take Hali to see a surgeon tomorrow to meet with him before she has surgery on the 22nd. It really isn't bothering her right now, but has gotten bigger so we are opting to take it out before it gets any bigger. She is really worried about having surgery, so if y'all could keep us in your thoughts tomorrow and on the 22nd that would be great. It is a little scary to see your child be so scared and worried. It makes it harder to be strong for them. I know that it seems a small thing, but you still worry about them and hope and pray that all goes well. So please keep her(us)in mind. Thanks.

Peek A Boo Silly Boy

I got the saying from Sandra Boynton's book/song Tropical Sand. (such a cute song!) When I was doing the layout the song popped in my head to do with the picture of Brock's foot with the sand in his toes. So cute!

July 4th

We were going to go to Yorktown Beach to see the fireworks, but decided that it was a little far away. Then we were going to go to Colonial Williamsburg to see them, but we got rained out. So needless to say, we didn't get to see fireworks. We went to Blockbuster and rented a movie and watched that together as a family. The girls were sad that we didn't get to see the fireworks, maybe next year.

This is the only picture that I really got of Brock.

We made these at girl's camp, but they had extras so I let the girls help me put some together.

Rabid Turtles

The Spirit Rock that our girls had one for two challenges in a row! Whoo Hoo!

This was our DEAR time (Drop everything and read) When I got there on Thursday I thought that the girls were somewhere else because it was so quiet. It was amazing to see the girls reading their scriptures or writing in their journals. Girls Camp Rocks!

This is what they caught out by the island. It was in the shell on the right, but all of a sudden we looked in the bag and it was like there were two in there. I have never seen a crawfish do that. (or as people out here call them 'crayfish'. They obviously aren't from Texas or Louisiana!)

I made this card with a transparency that is on the mat board. The letters are stickers that just go in the middle of the flowers. I added a brad in the middle of the flower and glue dotted it on. Still simple and quick. Gotta love those!

Whenever I scrapbook or make cards the girls have to get in on it. So this time I let them pretend to make cards. They didn't get to actually glue things together though. They still had fun "making" a card and then wiping it clean and then "making" another. It was kind of cute to see what they would come up with. I didn't get a picture of Hali's, and this is the only one that I got of Milaya's, but I thought that I would post it for her.

A day at the Beach

We took the kids to Yorktown Beach on Saturday. It is right by some CUTE shops and the Watermans's Museum. Milaya went there for a field trip at school. We had fun playing in the sand and eating a picnic lunch on the beach. Milaya said to me that she "couldn't believe that I am on a beach". It was pretty funny. Me neither! We have a name! I don't have any more pictures though. Chris and Evelyn named their beautiful baby girl Sophie Adelaide and they are going to call her Addie. She has got two cute dimples in her cheeks too. How cute is that! I got to hold her today. Mother and baby are doing great and she is so cute! I want another!

I had a doula client/friend go into labor yesterday. She called me at 4:30 in the morning saying she was having pretty consistent contractions. I went to her house and we went to the hospital at about 6:15 am. We were only at the hospital waiting for her husband to arrive for about 10 minutes. He works near DC and had to travel about 3 hours to get home. She did awsome! They didn't know what they were having before they had her! I couldn't wait that long to find out! She had a beautiful baby girl at 1:52 pm, weighing 7 lbs 10 oz, 20 inches long. They don't have a name for her yet, but I will keep you posted. Here is a pic of the baby. I hope they don't mind. I so love my job helping bring babies into this world and into wonderful families!

They are calling her Baby "Pea" because they don't have a name for her yet, and their last name starts with a "P", so it just stuck. How cute is that!

Fire Station #3

We went on a play date to the Fire Station #3 here in Williamsburg. Hali was shy at first and didn't want to get into the truck or let me take pics. Then she decided it wasn't scary and proceeded to do a fake/cheesy smile for me. Brock wouldn't smile at all or look at the camera much. They got a Junior Firefighter badge from the Captain who gave us the tour.

Some friends of ours gave us an Indoor/Outdoor Smore maker and I love it! We decided for the refreshments for a Family Home Evening we would do some. The girls loved them. Well, Hali just took hers apart and ate the chocolate and marshmallow but left the graham crackers.

These are my beautiful flowers that my husband got me for our 9th Anniversary. They are my favorite! I took these with my old camera right before we got our new one. So the color isn't the best. It makes them neon, which can give them a neat effect I guess.

Yes, Mother's Day has come and gone. I am running behind as usual. We have a family tradition of being late with cards, so I am just carrying it on one more generation I always say. Anyway, here are some of the Mother's Day cards that I made for my mom, mother-in-law, and friend. Only one of these cards were actually supposed to be a mother's day card. There are so many ways to use these cards!

This card is so cute! Everything that is the light pink is mat board. The flower and the circle are what is cut out to let the paper behind it show. I loved it! They are so easy to transform and put together. This was originally a thank you card.

This one I love! It has so many textures on it with the burlap flower to the felt pad circle in the middle, to the other flowers on the card. I added my own stamp that says "all my love" from Stampin' Up on the bottom left.

This one I used a versamark ink pad to put the pattern on the card. It looked too plain to just leave it by itself.

Ok, yes, here is another picture of Brian. He is just such a good dad and I love him! This came from a housecalls kit from June of 2006. I added the squares which were red and I painted with "expresso" paint from making memories. I love that stuff. It doesn't make your paper bubble when you paint with it. My daughter even took one of the pictures. Good job Milaya!

This is the first page that I have done in Hali's book,she is two in this picture. Sad I know, because she is 4 yrs. old now! I couldn't figure out what I was going to do with all of these pictures of the kids that are 11 x 13. I just figured out that instead of using another patterned paper behind it just use the picture as the paper. It turned out cute I think. Now I have to find all of the other ones and use them!

This is when she was one. I love this paper in this housecalls kit. I added spiced marmalade distress ink to the page and mats. I also added the rays around the sun. They are just some extras that I got at a garage sale that the company has every summer. Which I love to go to. I am sad that I am not going to be in Utah anymore to go! Anyway, the paper at the bottom was made to look like grass. That was from the Sugar and Spice Kit.

This is one of the accordion kits. This is what I take everywhere with me so I can show people who ask or are interested in what I do. They have 5 different kinds. This one is called Child's Play. They each have a theme with a shape cut out of the mat board. The other kits are:
Dungaree Patches (denim looking and green with star cut out)
Little Boy Blue (light blue/tan tones w/star)
Pretty in Pink (light pink tones with heart cut out)
Violet's Garden (violet tones w/flower cut out)

Thank you with mat board scalloped edge, distressed. This is a tri-fold card like the birthday card from an earlier post.

This is actually a "baby girl shaker" that I put on a card for a baby shower. You can affix it to the card or leave it off so they can use it as a baby's first Christmas ornament or put into their scrapbook.

This card was put together according to the idea page that comes with the kit (Greetings By Design)

Here I just added the flower that also came with the kit that was and extra, but went on another card and added it to this one with an eyelet.

Cric Book - Sweet Serendipity Kit

Most of the things that are on here came with the kit. I had some extra mat board tags that I added to it. When you are all done with it you can decoupage it so that it will be protected from fingers and things! These are perfect for Mother's Day gifts or as brag books for grandparents. They are good to take to church as a quiet book too.

This is a farm in Surry, which is across the James River that you could go and pick strawberries. You just had to pay for the berries that you picked. It was hard not to eat them right after you picked them! The kids had fun and it was a beautiful day. I love it here!

Demo Book for Hearstring Designs

This is the Demo book that I take with me when I do a party to tell about the company and why I wanted to be a Designer. They have 2 page kits, circ books which are 5 inch circles that you can decorate with paper, embellishments and stuff that all comes in the kit, then you can decoupage it after it is all done. They are great brag books for grandmas or mother's day gifts. Their Mega Kits have enough product in them to do over 13 layouts. It has fabric, matboard, embellishments, TONS of cute stuff!They all have themes to them. And they have way more beveled shapes than what shows here of course.

Crafty stuff

This is a board that I decided to make and it didn't turn out like I had planned, but it didn't turn out too bad. I had family pics on it but when we moved to our new place I thought that I would use it to put my favorite recipes that I use tons on it in my kitchen so I could see them easily. My mom liked the idea.
These are halloween treat pockets that I did for my daughters class. Again from Heartstrings Designs. It comes in a kit with the treat pockets to put whatever you want in it. I just embellished them with craft paint from Stampin' Up and some stamps that I got from Michael's a long time ago. I also used a stencil for the Boo and stars and moon and the pumpkins face.
These are just the same birthday card with the tag in the middle turned around so you can see the other side. I added the smiley face stamps to the back of the card using a versamark inkpad. Then added from the same stamp set the "happy birthday" and hats on the matboard on the bottom of the card and on the back of the tag.

Ok, I have been wanting to do this for a while to keep our family website separate from my hobby stuff. So here goes nothing. The pics I have listed are just some of the stuff I have done. Some of it is scrapbooking, stamping, cards, or other things that I have done. It isn't much so far, but I have more to come. My sister-in-law has inspired me to just go for it. So I hope that you enjoy the pictures and products. I do sell most of the stuff that I use on my pages and I absolutely LOVE their stuff. First is a birthday cake I did for my daughters 5th birthday I did a Barbie cake. She wanted it Barbie and Strawberry Shortcake so I just said how about a Barbie with strawberries as her dress. It worked. Next is her 6th birthday. She loved the game "Candy Land" so I made a cake to look like the game board.
